If you plan to stay in this region of Mayo, do seriously consider John & Erica’s place. It was just great. The room was fabulous and so clean. But the house (200 years old) along the river bank is amazing as are the massive gardens and great also if you have kids as they can play on slides, swings, etc. as well as feed the hens and the outdoor cat!!. The breakfast was so good with lots of choice including John’s homemade breads and of course fresh eggs from the hens. As a host, Erica is lovely. She made us feel so welcome and relaxed. We’ve already made arrangements for another booking.
The location was magical. The unit is perched on the banks of a beautiful flowing river, and is a glamping experience. My partner and I spent the night playing cards, drinking wine, having a fire, and listening to the river rush by. In the morning, we had a home-cooked breakfast by Erica. The touches in the rest of the space are perfectly curated as well – amazing antique finds that offer the perfect vibe for a relaxing, low-key, magical time.
“Amazing location, stayed in the shepards hut, a fantastic experience. Erica is an amazing host, the breakfast was delicious with her husband John’s homemade bread. Will return! ”
“Erica & Johns place is absolutely HEAVEN. The shepherd’s hut is probably my favorite place I’ve ever stayed! It has absolutely everything you could need & more. It’s so cosy, a real gem! The decor is so tasteful. Even the design of the hut is exceptional, everything has its place. You can really tell a lot of love & care went into creating the Shepherds hut. Located looking right in the river, it’s honestly the perfect escape, so peaceful & tranquil. Not to mention the breakfast in the morning, Johns bread went down a treat. I recommend to all 😊 ”
“By far the best B&B/guesthouse experience we’ve ever had. Everything was perfect down to the tiniest little detail. Standards to which all others should aspire to and the most welcoming and charismatic hosts. Breakfast was delicious, location was perfect, a faultless stay. We’ll definitely go back next year and bring more family with us.”
“This is with out a doubt the best b&b we have ever stayed in. This was the second time we stayed and somehow this time the standards improved even more, their attention to detail, general care and hospitality is fabulous. We we’re actually on a little mini honeymoon due to covid we thought we would stay in Ireland. Once Erica found this out she ever so thoughtfully left us some bubbles 🥂and a lovely hand wrote card to say congratulations as a surprise. Sitting in the cabin listening to the river and watching a little kingfisher fly about personally this was heaven for us. Erica is a absolute delight and Johns freshly baked bread is beautiful for breakfast. I couldn’t recommend a visit more.”
“Beautiful location, amazing views of the river and space to enjoy a cuppa or wee drink just watching the river. The coach room was so spacious and cosy, with everything you needed. It’s only 5 minutes walk into town, and the breakfast was so yummy! Our host was so friendly and helpful. ”
We loved the homely feel of our stay. We feel super relaxed after our three day stay, probably from the wonderful breakfast selection that Erica serves in the morning, carefully baked by John! We were always set up well for our day, after a comfy night’s sleep and you’re never too far from an activity or day out. Riverside House is a real gem and one that we will be returning to any time we visit the West Coast.”
